Laura Herrera Scott, Vice President of Medicaid Clinical Operations, Anthem
Laura Herrera Scott, M.D., M.P.H, is the VP of Medicaid Clinical Operations for Anthem. In this position, Dr. Herrera Scott, is responsible for overseeing the administration of medical services for the Company’s Medicaid health plans. Dr. Herrera Scott is also responsible for enhancing the innovation and effectiveness of new or existing healthcare policies as well as leading the development and implementation of activities designed to improve patient outcomes.
Prior to joining Amerigroup, Dr. Herrera Scott provided physician leadership in the design, implementation, and execution, of the population health care management programs of Johns Hopkins HealthCare and the Johns Hopkins Medicine Office of Managed Care and Population Health. Her focus was on integrated care delivery, community engagement, and supporting the quality improvement and transformation work of both the health plans and the delivery system.
With nearly two decades of experience, Dr. Herrera Scott has also held has held several prominent leadership positions in the Baltimore area and Maryland. As a trained family medicine physician, Dr. Scott has extensive public health experience and has led innovative programs specifically designed to improve health outcomes while saving costs. These roles include: the Deputy Secretary for Public Health for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Acting Deputy Chief Officer, Office of Patient Care Services and Office of Public Health at the Veterans Health Administration, as well as the Deputy Commissioner of Health and Chief Medical Officer in the Baltimore City Health Department.
She received her MD from SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn and her MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed her internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
