Dr. Nuno Alves, Senior Business and Technical Advisor, BP
Dr. Nuno Alves is a Senior Business and Technical Advisor, working in BP’s Washington, D.C. office. His primary responsibilities include providing strategical business and operational input to the Communications and External Affairs team, focused on Upstream related policy and regulatory issues. In addition, Nuno supports the International Affairs team on external engagements, representing BP business interests in Africa.
Before assuming his current role, Nuno was responsible for reservoir development of Wamsutter, a giant gas field located in Wyoming. Under his leadership the team played a significant role in truly transforming the business, adopting a different approach to drilling and improving financial results of the asset. Nuno was also instrumental in driving numerous engineering and production improvement projects across the asset.
Nuno began his BP career in 2001 as a reservoir engineer in Sunbury, London, working the Angola deep water assets. He then served a variety of reservoir and petroleum engineering technical roles, including representing BP in a joint venture project with Total. Prior to moving to the US for the Wamsutter role, Nuno held the position of Executive Advisor to the EVP Upstream Production in BP’s London headquarters.
Nuno holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from Queen Mary, University of London. He currently lives in Northern Virginia, with his wife Maria and three children.
