Rick Cruz, College Board, Chair of the DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB)
Rick Cruz has served for 20+ years in numerous management, program and external affairs roles at organizations across the professional services, education, and youth development sectors. He currently leads strategic partnerships at the College Board and, in this capacity, he is responsible for building and cultivating alliances with public and private institutions to increase the organization’s impact and reach and that of its partners.
Rick currently serves as Chair of the DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB), a volunteer role in which he and the Board provide oversight to 126 campuses serving 46% of DC public school students. The PCSB frequently has been cited as the most effective charter school authorizer in the country. Rick previously has served in senior leadership roles at America’s Promise Alliance and Teach for America, and as CEO of the DC Prep Public Charter School network. Rick began his career in the professional services sector, working at the Corporate Executive Board (CEB) in Washington, DC and London for more than a decade where he led teams in supporting global corporations’ strategic planning, finance and risk management and Board development.
Rick was a Founding Board Member of the National Charter Collaborative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and growing the number of single site charters lead by leaders of color. He also currently services on the Board of Instruction Partners, a nonprofit that works with districts and schools to support teachers and leaders to improve the quality of instruction in core academics.
Rick earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Yale University. He resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Leslie, and two children, Luca and Belén. Rick is a Fellow of the ninth class of the Pahara-Aspen Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
